What makes a good movie?
This is an entirely subjective question. You may come across individuals who think it revolves around cinematography and how the images are captured. Someone else may think it revolves around the actors and their perception of a good actor. Others may entirely disagree with both aspects and say acting and cinematography are entirely irrelevant and it revolves around how the overall film made you feel.
The reality of it is, movies are designed and meant to be interpreted by the viewer in order to create an entire experience. Cinema can help us change perspectives, see things differently, and compare our own lives to what we have just viewed, it’s a way to escape reality and be consumed by another reality or even world.
My favorite movie has to be Avatar, you may be thinking of the film released in 2010 with the individuals who can move the elements but no. Avatar, as in the large blue people in the world of Pandora was released in 2009. I remember the very first time I saw the film, I was very young and my father was on the couch with the DVD in the little box that was attached to the television by a handful of wires. I was captivated and transported by what I just witnessed. I remember thinking about how could I go on living a normal life after witnessing such a display of cinema.

It revolves around colonization and how it can ruin native land. The Na’vi are natives to this world and humans from galaxies away are coming and tearing apart their home to study their world and one day hoping to colonize it. There is a sequence of unpredicted events that occur but in the end the Na’vi fight together to protect their home. They are joined by a select few humans who have fallen in love with the land and culture of the Na’vi and choose to fight with them.
Into the world of Pandora
James Cameron’s Avatar was one of the first films to surpass $2.9 billion at the box office, the movie broke records upon its release. It not only broke records in a financial aspect but a technological one as well. Cameron developed technology ahead of its time to develop this film, and the technology is even used today. He created a 3D camera to better enhance augmented reality which changed the way cinema is produced.

I don’t know all the technical terms but I can understand the impact this singular movie had on the film industry. It was a film that altered the way movies are made today, it had such an impact on the industry Disney developed an entire park that revolved around the immaculate world of pandora.
I was just a kid when I first saw the film, of course, I have watched it countless times since then. What’s even more exciting is that 13 years later and the world is finally getting a sequel. After the film ends on a cliffhanger, on December 16th, 2022 the world will get to experience a new film bringing us back into the world of Pandora.

Excited is an understatement, people have been waiting for this film for over a decade and in the next few weeks, we will all finally get what we wanted. Avatar: The Way of the Water is not only the sequel to the first film but has also impacted the film industry yet again with the technology used to develop this film. Cameron seems to be very particular about what is required in order to create the world and experience he feels is necessary to produce his films.
Only time will tell the impact this film will have on individuals as well as how this will revolutionize the film industry in the production of future cinema. An entirely new generation of individuals gets to experience the world of pandora like never before and one can only hope the sequel is as breathtaking as the first.
